Professional Appearance and Robust Construction
This bee escape board combines traditional materials with an effective modern escape design, ensuring both aesthetic appeal and long-lasting functionality.
Materials:
Frame: Constructed from high-quality, smooth-finished timber (pine or fir), providing a sturdy and durable outer rim. The corners are securely joined for rigidity.
Board Panel: A solid, flat panel of smooth plywood is securely set within the wooden rim, forming the main surface of the board.
Escape Mechanism: A precisely constructed, multi-layered triangular wire mesh escape is centrally mounted on the top surface of the board panel. This mesh is made from durable, corrosion-resistant metal.
Design & Functionality:
The board is designed to be placed between the honey supers (to be harvested) and the brood chamber below.
Top Surface (Facing Honey Supers): Bees in the honey supers seeking to move downwards will enter the escape mechanism. Two main configurations for entry:
A central hole (either round or slotted, covered with mesh) in the plywood panel, leading directly into the base of the triangular mesh escape structure.
The triangular mesh structure itself having a central opening for bees to enter.
Escape Path:
The triangular mesh escape consists of several nested, V-shaped mesh funnels. Bees can easily navigate downwards through these one-way funnels.
Bottom Surface (Facing Brood Chamber): The underside of the board is flat plywood. Bees exiting the mesh funnels emerge underneath the board and cannot easily find their way back up into the honey supers.
Overall Build: The board presents a clean, professional look with its natural wood finish and precisely assembled components. It’s built to withstand the rigors of apiary use.
